ORIGIN OF KHADGA WEAPON IN MAHABHARATA

Lord Brahma creates Asi and gives it to Lord Shiva

The powerful weapon Khadga (Asi) was the primary weapon ever created according to Hindu epic. Ashwatthama was once blessed with the aid of Lord Shiva with such a spectacular Khadga weapon before he had entered the camp of Pandavas to kill the remaining warriors of Pandava side. After the amazing Mahabharata warfare, whilst Yudhisthira was crowned as King of Hastinapur, Lord Krishna freed wonderful Bhishma from all of his sufferings prior to his death and requested him to alleviate Yudhisthira from mourning over the dead Kshatriyas via the way of advising him on Dharma. At that time, Nakula asked the grandfather Bhishma, who was sleeping on the bed of arrows that, despite the fact that on this global the bow was considered to be the exceptional weapon but, he Nakula determined a sharp Khadga or Kharga to be better therefore he wished to know which weapon was excellent in all the wars, how and for what cause did khadga originate, Who created it and who became the first Acharya of Khadga? Hearing the query of Nakula, the wise son of Madri, Bhishma gladly informed him of the origin of Khadga. Let us know approximately it. I'm positive all of us are excited to know about it.

In the past, this entire world was within the form of a single ocean of water. At that point, there was no quake in it. The sky was not recognized. There was no name of earth. The whole thing was covered with darkness. There was no feeling of speech and touch. It was very intense in seeing Ekarnava. There was no restriction to it, in that Pitamah Lord Brahma was born. The mighty father created Vayu, Agni and sun. He also created the sky, above, beneath, the land and the demons, the sky with the moon and stars, constellations, planets, Samvatsara, seasons, months, Paksha and moments. Thereupon Lord Brahma, having a cosmic body, created those exquisite sons named as Marichi, Atri, Pulastya, Pulaha, Kratu, Vasishtha, Angira or Rudra, endowed with nature and opulence. Daksha, the son of Prachetas, gave birth to sixty girls. All of them were received through the Brahmarishis in the form of their better halves for the beginning of the humans. From those were born all beings, deities, ancestors, Gandharvas, Apsaras, numerous forms of demons, animals, birds, fishes, monkeys, big snakes, all types of birds that move in water and land, Udbhija(plants), Svedaja(born out of sweats or warm vapour like insects), Andaja(born from eggs such as birds) and Jarayuja(born from womb such as men). In this way, the whole world was organized. Excellent Brahma created all these beings and placed the burden of upholding Vedokta Sanatana Dharma on them. All the Acharyas and the priests, the deities, Adityas, Vasus, Rudras, Sadhyas, Maruts and Ashwini Kumars had been established in that Sanatana Dharma. Outstanding sages Bhrigu, Atri and Angira, rich in penance Kashyapagana, Vasishtha, Gautama, Agastya, Devarshi Narada, Parvata, Valakhilya, Prabhasa, Sikata, Ghritapa (the ones who drink ghee), Somapa (one who drinks Soma), Vayavya (consuming air), Marichipa (drinking the rays of the sun)and Vaishvanaras and Akrtas (the ones born without plowing and making a residing from food), Hansamuni (monks), sages born of fire, Vanaprastha and Prishnis- they all observed the Sanatana Dharma through being under the orders of Lord Brahma.

However, the demons, full of anger and greed, disobeyed Lord Brahma and began harming religion by means of violating it. Hiranyakashipu, Hiranyaksha, Virochana, Shambara, Viprachitti, Viradha, Namuchi and Bali and many other demons, along with their groups, started out to stay a life of pleasure, taking a firm determination to commit unrighteousness by way of disregarding the guidelines of religion. All those demons used to say that they and the deities belonged to an equal race; both of them were identical. In this manner, taking shelter in their caste religion, the demons started out competing with the deities. They neither loved any creatures nor had any pity on them. By crossing all these three approaches of Sama, Dama and Bhed, they started torturing each person by way of Dand simplest. The asuras filled with great pride did no longer even speak with anyone.

Eventually, with Brahma rishis, Lord Brahma seemed on the peak of the Himalayas. It was so high that the stars in the sky looked like a lotus growing on it. Its expansion was of hundred yojans. It was full of gemstones and jewels. Trees and forests were rich of flowers there. On the top of that mountain, Lord Brahma stayed to accomplish the work of the entire globe. After the lapse of several thousand years, Lord Brahma commenced a great yajna there in keeping with the scriptures. The skilled Maharishis and others carried out that yajna as consistent with the religion. There Samidhas were spread over the Yajnavedi. The fire was blazing everywhere. Yajna mandapa was embellished with Glittering gold-made sacrificial vessels. That Yajna Mandal was full of many deities and outstanding sages. At that point, a very horrible incident happened there. As the moon rises within the clear sky after the rising of the stars, in the same way a terrible ghost seemed in that yajna-mandapa by scattering the fire here and there. The colour of his body was as darkish as a blue lotus, his stomach was very sore, He appeared to be very tall, supremely courageous and unmistakable. As soon as he was born, the earth began to tremble, the ocean was disturbed and waves started out to rise in it. Meteors began falling from the sky, great disasters started appearing, trees themselves began falling down their branches, all of the guidelines became disturbed and an inauspicious wind started out blowing with great pace. All the creatures got worried with fear. In view of that horrible ghost present, Lord Brahma said to the splendid sages, gods and Gandharvas that, “I had contemplated this ghost. This is a powerful weapon named Asi. I've manifested it for the safety of the complete world and for the killing of the demons who're against the Devas. After that, the ghost relinquished that form and appeared in the shape of a Khadga which became thirty fingers long. Its edge was sharp and it was regarded as Kala. After this, Brahma gave that sharp sword to Lord Rudra, the Nilakantha, who was capable of redressing unrighteousness. At that time the Maharishis commenced praising Rudradeva. Then Lord Rudra, in the form of Chaturbhuja, took the sword, even whilst standing on the ground, he was touching the sun god with his head. His gaze was upward, he was carrying a great sign. He was emitting flames of hearth from his mouth and was reflecting numerous colours of green, white and red from his body. He was wearing a black deerskin in the form of a garment, wherein golden stars were engraved. He had a shiny eye like the sun on his forehead, besides that he had very pure colours of black and orange eyes which appeared beautiful.

Thereupon, Lord Mahadeva, with exceptional strength and courage, took in his hand the stunning as Kala weapon Khadga and a three-cornered shield like a cloud with lightning and roamed everywhere at the same time as swinging the sword in the sky with the desire to combat. At that point, the form of Rudradeva whilst roaring loudly and making great laughter appeared very horrifying. All of the demons, filled with pleasure and exuberance, to do evil attacked him. Some began raining stones, a few commenced using burning firewood, others started the use of horrible weapons and many began hitting them with the sharp edges of iron-made knives. Thereafter, when the demons became distraught to see the fiercely powerful Rudradeva, who dealt with the duty of the Devasenapati, was not backing down from the battle. Because of the rapid lifting of the feet, Rudradeva who moved at a strange pace at the same time as carrying Khadga seemed to be of thousand numbers to the demons. Lord Rudra began to wander there, even as slashing and tearing the demons, injuring and killing those demons. the speed of the sword caused a stampede amongst them all. Many arms and thighs were cut off, The thorax of many became disfigured and the intestines came out from the bodies of a few. In this manner he fell on earth as a giant demon. The other demons, suffering from sword injuries, fled and took safe haven in all directions. Many entered the earth, many hid in the mountains, a few flew in the sky and many demons got inside the water. Because of that very gruesome and incredible battle, the earth was covered with blood and flesh. Due to which she began to look very terrible. After slaying the demons and establishing the primacy of dharma within the globe, Lord Rudradeva deserted that fierce form and appeared in his auspicious form. After that every one of the sages and the deities, glad about that wonderful victory, worshipped Mahadeva.

Thereupon Lord Rudra handed over that dharma protector Khadga stained with the blood of the demons to Lord Vishnu with superb hospitality. Lord Vishnu gave it to Marichi, Marichi gave it to Maharishis and Maharishis handed over to Deity king Indra. Then Mahendra gave that huge Khadga to the Lokpal and the Lokpal to Manu, the son of Surya God. They said to Manu that, “you're the ruler of men; So rule the people with this Khadga. People who violate the boundaries of Dharma in order to provide pleasure to their bodies should be punished separately with justice. Protect all the humans righteously, do no longer be arbitrarily closer to everyone. Suppressing the criminal with bitter words is known as 'Vagdand'. Wherein a variety of gold is recovered from the offender, it is known as 'Arthdand'. Injuring of any particular part of the body is called 'kaya-dand'. The killing of a criminal because of a great crime is called 'Praandand'. These four punishments are the form of the sword. This should be instructed to all the humans. 'While Dharma is violated by means of the people, then it must be protected by properly using these punishments, given by Khadga.” After pronouncing this the Lokpal sent off their son Manu. Thereafter, Manu gave that knife to Ksupa for the safety of the humans. Ksupa gave it to Ikshvaku, from Ikshvaku Pururavas took it. Then Ayu from Pururavas, Nahusha from Ayu, Yayati from Nahusha and Puru from Yayati got that Khadga on this earth. Amurtaraya from Puru, King Bhumishaya from Amurtaraya and Dushyanta son Bharata from Bhumishaya took that khadga. From him, the virtuous Ilavila received that sword. King Dhundhumara got from Ilavila. Thereafter, Kamboja from Dhundhumara, Muchukunda from Kamboja, Marutta from Muchkunda, Raivat from Marutta, Yuvanashva from Revata, Ikshvaku dynasty Raghu from Yuvanashva, Harinashva from Raghu, Shaunaka from Harinashva, Ushinara from Shaunaka, Bhoja Yaduvanshi from Ushinara, Shibi from Yadu dynasty, Pratardana from Shibi, Astaka from Pratardana, Prsadasva from Astaka received the Khadga.

Then Dronacharya, son of Bharadwaja and Kripacharya each learnt the Khadgavidya from Prsadasva. Then Pandavas including Nakula received the knowledge of the Khadga from Kripacharya. The Nakshatra of that Asi is Kritika, the deity is Agni. The gotra is Rohini and the guru is Rudradeva. There are eight secret names. One who chants those names wins the battle. Khadga is the best of all weapons. Lord Rudra was the first to conduct it. Its superiority has been told within the Puranas. Superb Prithu was the first to acquire Dhanush and it was he who had produced the seeds of numerous types of crops from this earth. Vena son Prithu had protected this earth with the same righteousness as before. The wise guys ought to constantly worship Khadga.”
